Three Cases of Ascariasis of the Common Bile Duct that have Long History

Abstract
There are many reports about ascariasis of the common bile duct in Korea. Almost all of them were on acute cases. Recently author experienced three cases having long history. Eath one has 30, 20, 10 more years of history respectively. Living ascaris were found in two cases but another one had 10 more dead bodies of ascaris with gall stone.
Author could not certify the destined length of life of the ascaris. Therefore the reason of long history is very interesting matter and to be studied more. Preoperative diagnosis was impossible, method of treatment was cholecystectomy and T-tube insertion into the common bile duct. Results were satisfatory in two cases but another one died 6 days after operation because of acute pneumonia. In this case, liver cancer was found at operation macroscopically and confirmed by biopsy.
